Traffic: HRBT backup to Hampton River cleared

At 8:50 a.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation was reporting the following traffic issues: Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel The congestion to Hampton River had cleared. Interstate 64 A disabled vehicle had cleared and all westbound lanes at Military Highway were open.  Berkley Bridge A lift was scheduled for 9 a.m. James River Bridge The bridge will open at 10 a.m.  

Police find threat against Muslims in Virginia Tech bathroom

BLACKSBURG Virginia Tech authorities say they are investigating a threatening message found inside a bathroom on campus. Local news outlets report campus police received a report Monday concerning graffiti inside a bathroom stall at Price Hall. The message read: "I will be here 11/11/2015 to kill all muslims."

Some Hampton Roads, North Carolina schools to open late today because of fog

Some public schools in Virginia and North Carolina will open late this morning because of fog.  Accomack County schools will open two hours late. Schools in Hertford County, N.C., will open one hour late, according to the division's website. The fog should decrease after sunrise, according to the National Weather Service.

Chesapeake man charged with dealing 22 pounds of heroin, 110 pounds of cocaine

NORFOLK The former operator of a Norfolk convenience store was ordered held without bond Thursday amid allegations he dealt large quantities of heroin and cocaine over the past two decades. Kenneth Lee Parker, 50, of Chesapeake is charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute narcotics.

Virginia Beach holds 13-week program for families affected by addiction

VIRGINIA BEACH The Human Services Department is offering a free 13-week program for families affected by substance abuse, officials said Wednesday. The "Celebrating Families!" class will meet every Wednesday starting Nov. 18, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Pembroke Elementary School, 4622 Jericho Road.
