  By John Streit Correspondent PORTSMOUTH On the coldest night of the season, Jacorey Robins and the Churchland Truckers were red hot. The result: The postseason-bound Truckers (7-3, 6-1) claimed a share of the Eastern District title for the first time since 1997. Lake Taylor, a 29-7 winner over Norview, is the league co-champion.

Field hockey: Cox wins Eastern Region

  VIRGINIA BEACH In a couple of brief moments, Cox grabbed momentum and never relented in Friday’s Eastern Region field hockey final at the National Training Center. With the Falcons leading 1-0, Kelsey Rosenmeier and Casey DiNardo scored in the final two minutes before halftime to power the Beach District’s top seed to a 4-1 victory over Southeastern No. 1 seed Lakeland.

Oscar Smith wraps up yet another district title

CHESAPEAKE Winning never gets old for the Oscar Smith football team. "It's our job to win championships, so it never gets old," said Tigers coach Richard Morgan after the Tigers' 47-17 win over No. 6 Great Bridge on Friday at Colon L. Hall Stadium. "Hopefully we can keep it together five more weeks."

  After four consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs, there was a renewed vigor this week at Booker T. Washington football practices. “In the past four years, our kids really shut down the last two games because we always had a losing record,” coach Che Jacobs said. “Now practice has been so intense. We need this game.” Win, you’re in.
