Renovations close Greenbrier ABC Store site

An ABC store in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake will be closed from today until June 28 for renovations. The store, at 836 Eden Way North, is being remodeled to accommodate a surge of customers, the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control said in a news release Friday.

Smithfield sells stake in Campofrio Food Group

The parent company of Smithfield Foods Inc. said Wednesday that it sold Smithfield's stake in one of Europe's largest packaged meats companies.
WH Group, based in China, said it sold Smithfield's interest in Campofrio Food Group to the Mexican company Alfa for $354 million in cash. Smithfield had a 37 percent stake in Campofrio, based in Madrid.

Dollar Tree Inc. announced Friday that it had cleared a major antitrust hurdle in its attempt to purchase Family Dollar. The Chesapeake-based retailer said it reached agreement with a private equity firm to purchase 330 Family Dollar stores.
