The state’s sales tax holiday begins today and goes through Sunday.  The holiday runs through the weekend and exempts certain school supplies, clothes and shoes from sales tax. This holiday also exempts hurricane and emergency preparedness items along with certain energy efficient appliances.

Center court, once a kiosk-cluttered maze, is now an airy, bright lounge with cushioned seats and sofas. Kroger recalls seasonings for risk of salmonella

Kroger has recalled four types of seasoning after a sample from a South Carolina store tested positive for salmonella. Kroger Ground Cinnamon, Kroger Garlic Powder, Kroger Coarse Ground Black Pepper and Kroger Bac'n Buds were produced on the same equipment as the product found with the contamination, according to a news release. The company has recalled all of the seasonings as a precaution.

Egg prices stable after big jump, Virginia survey says

Soaring egg prices have nearly cracked consumers' wallets this year, but the latest numbers might go over easy with Virginians.
The average retail price of a dozen large eggs was $2.44, virtually unchanged from $2.45 in June, according to the monthly "market basket" survey released this week by the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The Fresh Market will set up shop next year at Pembroke Mall in the northwest corner of the Sears building. The store will open in April, Ramsay Smith, president of Pembroke Commercial Realty, confirmed Tuesday.
