RICHMOND Virginia is adding 10 sites to its ever-expanding landmarks register, including the Wisconsin battleship in Norfolk and  NASA-Langley Research Center in Hampton.

Plan OK'd for residential complex on Norfolk's southern end

NORFOLK The City Council approved a plan Tuesday night that will bring the first large residential development to the city's southern end in years. By a 7-1 vote, with Councilman Paul R. Riddick dissenting, the council approved a rezoning that will allow a Virginia Beach developer to build a 246-unit apartment complex just south of the Campostella Bridge.

Kitchen fire prompts evacuations at Norfolk nursing home

Residents in one section of a Norfolk nursing home were evacuated while firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire Wednesday evening.
 
The only significant damage occurred in the kitchen of one unit, and residents were able to return to the nursing home, located at 701 Easy St. near Tidewater Drive, Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Harry Worley said.

According to a news release issued Tuesday, Yin collapsed and fell from a branch attached to her stilted house on March 5.
She was treated by the zoo’s on-site veterinary clinic but didn’t survive.
