Republican Ken Cuccinelli wins Va. attorney general seat

The Virginian-Pilot and The Roanoke Times RICHMOND Riding the Republican wave of victories in statewide offices Tuesday, Ken T. Cuccinelli II trounced his Democratic opponent, Stephen C. Shannon, in the race to become Virginia’s next attorney general.

Republican Bill Bolling re-elected Va. lieutenant governor

The Virginian-Pilot and The Roanoke Times Republican William T. “Bill” Bolling easily won re-election as lieutenant governor on Tuesday, gathering 57 percent of the vote to Democrat Jody M. Wagner’s 43 percent.

Va. police investigating voter fraud by felons

RICHMOND Virginia State Police are investigating whether any felons illegally voted in last November's election. Police and election officials aren't saying how many possible offenders are under investigation. Election officials say the investigation was prompted by questions raised by the recent indictment of two people in a Louisa County voter-fraud case.

McDonnell addresses climate change at rally with McCain in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell said Saturday he believes the globe is warming but wouldn't blame man-made carbon emissions as its cause. McDonnell said after a veterans rally with Arizona Sen. John McCain that he remains firmly opposed to energy legislation intended to slow global warming by reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

Norfolk sheriff candidates ran against each other in 2005

NORFOLK Bob McCabe, the incumbent sheriff, points to his experience as reason to keep the post. His challenger, former deputy Sean Jones, said a new way of doing things is reason to vote for him. McCabe, 51, was first elected as a Republican, won re-election as an independent, and then won re-election as a Democrat. He is running as a Democrat again this election.

Chesapeake sheriff's race pits incumbent against former deputy

CHESAPEAKE When John Newhart became sheriff in 1970, the city was a vast expanse of farms interrupted by a few small towns. As the farmlands gave way to bedroom communities, Newhart remained a constant. He has been re-elected every four years, and went unchallenged for two decades. This year, independent candidate and former deputy David Cahoon is taking on his former boss.

Bolling launches third campaign commercial, Wagner responds

Incumbent Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling has his third campaign commercial of the election running in television markets across Virginia. His newest ad labels his Democratic opponent, Jody Wagner, a spendthrift who has supported higher taxes and will continue to if elected. It will run in Hampton Roads, northern Virginia, Richmond and Roanoke.

Voter registration deadline today for Nov. elections

If you’re not already registered, or if your name or address has changed, today is the deadline for filing your voting paperwork if you want to vote Nov. 3.

You can visit your local voter registrar in person or send a fax by close of business. Or you can apply by mail, as long as it’s postmarked today.
