Suffolk councilman Jones files for another term

SUFFOLK — City Councilman Calvin W. Jones has filed to run for a second term.Jones, 57, was first elected in 2002 and represents the Holy Neck Borough of Suffolk. He recently retired after 36 years with the Virginia Department of Health.Before he was elected to the City Council, he was a school board member for eight years.Jones is also chairman of the Western Tidewater Regional Jail Board and chairman of the Western Tidewater Water Authority.

Chesapeake's GOP endorses nine officials for re-election

CHESAPEAKE - The Republican Party of Chesapeake backed five incumbents running for City Council on Thursday night, saying the members' experience would be needed in the next four years. The announcement marks the first formal acknowledgement that the five incumbents - Vice Mayor John de Triquet and council members Pete Burkhimer , Alan Krasnoff , Joe Newman , and Debbie Ritter - will seek re-election.The party also endorsed four incumbents for the School Board: Barbara Head , Jay Leftwich . . .
