VIRGINIA BEACH The Princess Anne boys and girls tennis teams celebrated the end of a historic week with a pasta party Friday. Both host Group AAA state quarterfinals next week - the boys against Albemarle, the girls vs. Franklin County - and used completely different recipes to get to their final course.
VIRGINIA BEACH Josh Wrothley’s single in the bottom of the fifth drove in Christian Vylonis to give Kellam a 2-1 victory over Salem in the Beach District championship game Thursday at Landstown. Kellam jumped to a 1-0 lead following a bases-loaded walk in the second inning.
NEWPORT NEWS Princess Anne's Fredric Lilland and First Colonial's Victoria Olivarez entered the Eastern Region tennis singles finals having not dropped a set all season. Both saw their streaks end, but only one was able to recover.
VIRGINIA BEACH First Colonial made history last season, advancing to the Eastern Region tournament for the first time after winning the Beach District regular-season and tournament titles. Getting back to the region tournament didn't seem possible - the Patriots graduated six key players, including Jailynn Jackson and Brittany Coursen, the district's Pitcher and Player of the Year.
Beach District Kempsville 2, Kellam 0 First Colonial 6, Landstown 3 Landstown is the regular-season district champion and has an automatic Eastern Region tournament berth. But the district's final berth won't be decided until today, when Kempsville meets First Colonial in the tournament championship game at 5 p.m. at Princess Anne.
NEWPORT NEWS Not thunder, lightning nor a change of venue midway through the match could stop the Princess Anne boys tennis team. For the fourth consecutive season, Princess Anne and Cox met in the Eastern Region final. And for the second time in three years, the Cavaliers came away victors with a 5-1 decision Tuesday at the Centre Court Indoor Tennis Center.
NEWPORT NEWS For the Princess Anne girls tennis team to finally beat Cox, the Cavaliers knew they needed a win from senior Gia Maulbeck. Not only did they get it, but they also got an upset to go their way as well.
