Granby wins Eastern District baseball title

NORFOLK The Granby baseball team is loud and annoying. It smells, too. And on Thursday, the Comets discovered another flaw. They don't take championship photos very well.

Baseball: Granby, Maury roll en route to Eastern District title game

Eastern District Granby 13, Lake Taylor 4 Jamie DeAngio got the start in left field on coach Robbie Butler's gut feeling, and the senior came through. DeAngio, batting ninth in the lineup, had three hits and scored two runs as the fourth-seeded Comets knocked off regular-season district champion Lake Taylor on Wednesday at ODU.

Eastern District soccer: Maury girls, Granby boys win titles

Eastern District girls final Maury 3, Granby 1 Sarah Mariano, Cristina Bashara and Lilly Cady netted goals and the Commodores (13-3) cruised to win the district tournament on Tuesday at Old Dominion. Maury, winner of nine straight, used pinpoint passing to run circles around the Comets, who weren't able to sustain offensive pressure besides a few brief counterattacks.

Spring Sports Buzz VI: Baseball, Softball, Soccer Track

BASEBALL Titans won first title since 1995   Lake Taylor coach Steve Gray could feel success coming at the end of last season.   The Titans, who won their first Eastern District title since 1995 this season, were a young team leading eventual-champion Churchland 2-0 in the seventh when things fell apart during an error-filled inning.

Monday's roundup | Salem rallies in baseball

BASEBALL Salem 3, Princess Anne 2 Brandon Trujillo drove in Connor Staskey on an RBI single in the sixth and the SunDevils (15-5, 12-4 Beach) clipped the Cavaliers on Monday. After Princess Anne took a 2-0 lead, Salem tied it in the third on Devonte Bivins' RBI double. Bivins pitched the first five innings and struck out seven. Staskey (2-2) threw the last two innings.

In the game with ... Christian Rivera, Granby soccer

NORFOLK Focus. It's a theme that runs through just about everything Granby senior Christian Rivera does these days. "I wake up focused," Rivera said last week as he paced the sidelines of Powhatan Field prior to an important boys soccer match against rival Maury. "Especially this morning."
