Redskins cornerback Phillip Buchanon will be suspended for the first four games of the season, coach Mike Shanahan said Tuesday.

Shanahan declined to reveal the reason for the suspension, which was issued by the NFL. League spokesman Greg Aiello also declined to comment, saying "We're not announcing any suspensions at this point."

With more than 10,000 local residents enrolled, for-profit colleges such as University of Phoenix have proliferated in Hampton Roads in recent years. The schools, sometimes criticized for getting students deep into debt and for giving degrees of dubious value, are getting lots of funds from GI Bill benefits. Still, they offer flexible schedules and some employers are happy to hire their grads.
