A rose-colored bird with an unforgettable beak and black wings with white patches is spending time at Jean Brougton’s feeders in Morgans Walke in Virginia Beach. A white-winged crossbill, the bird has migrated farther south than usual because it’s a bad year for conifers in the north. The trees are not bearing enough cones to keep these seed eaters well fed.
