Are you opinionated? Do you boldly and unapologetically interject your thoughts and opinions often, even when they're not asked for? Are you passionate about a certain topic and have lots to say about it? Are you highly involved in a community or cultural group in Hampton Roads? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you might have what to takes to be a HamptonRoads.com blogger.
What is a HamptonRoads.com blog, you ask?
It's similar to other web blogs with a focus on our unique community. Bloggers receive their own area on the HamptonRoads.com site to post their opinions, chronicle life experiences, share information about their communities, etc. For an example, check out a few of our community bloggers.
So what does it take to be a HamptonRoads.com blogger?
A topic, your thoughts and a little of your time. If you are chosen to be a blogger, we'd like to have a photo and a short bio. You will be asked to update your blog daily, ideally, or at least several times a week. We know you lead busy lives, but readers lose interest in blogs that aren't timely. If you are chosen and are unable to update your blog at least several times a week, your blog may be taken off the site. You don't have to write a novel each time you post - in fact, we'd rather you didn't. Just post a couple of paragraphs on your topic.
Will your blog be edited?
We'd rather not edit blogs, frankly, but we reserve the right to do so if a blog posting violates our guidelines. Guide violations will lead to removing the blog from the site. Otherwise, the blog is yours to write what you will.
What topics will be considered for blogs?
We will consider any topic you'd like to write about, of course, but we're also looking for bloggers to write about the following topics:
- Life on the Peninsula
- Military life (and spouses of the military too!)
- Communities, neighborhoods (Ghent, Greenbriar, Oceanfront.. you name it, we want it!)
- Sports (from little league to high school and college, especially UVA and Va. Tech)
- Restaurants/nightlife (latest in local food and drink as well as clubs, dances, etc.)
- Jobs and career
- Home improvements/budget decorating
- Cooking/recipes/wine/spirits
- Family
- Health and Fitness
- Firsts (chronicling life firsts like first baby, weddings, first job, first home, first car, etc.)
- Chronicling any life-changing experience in your life
What should you do to be considered?
- Email us your name and number you can be reached if we have questions
- Topic you'd like to blog about
- Why you think you'd be the best to blog about this topic
- How often you'll be able to update your blog
- A sample of your blog entry
If you are chosen, we will notify you and give you the information you will need to begin your blog.
That's all there is to it - come blog for us!
