TO HAVE A SWEET TIME, remember trick-or-treating is for ages 12 and under on Halloween night (Oct. 31). Trick-or-treating hours for each city is as follows:

• Norfolk, until 8 p.m.
• Virginia Beach, dusk to 8 p.m.
• Portsmouth, 6 to 8 p.m.
• Chesapeake, 6 to 8 p.m.
• Suffolk, 6 to 8 p.m.
• Hampton, dusk till 8 p.m.
• Newport News, until 8 p.m.
• James City County, 6 to 8 p.m.

FOR SAFETY, keep these things in mind:
• Take along a flashlight.
• Walk on the sidewalks when possible.
• Costume should be of a flame-retardant material.
• Costumes should be light-colored or be reflective.
• Stay clear of open fires and candles.
• No running.
• Bring along an adult.
• Have fun, but be safe.
• Have an adult inspect your treats.
