Stolen credit cards

On Jan. 22 about 3 p.m. a 79-year-old woman was shopping at a business in the 1100 block of S. Military Highway when she had a conversation with another woman. When the 79-year-old woman went to pull her wallet out of her purse to pay for her purchases, she realized it was missing. The woman she had been speaking with earlier approached, handed over her wallet and said, “You must have dropped this.” Later, the victim got a call from her credit card company that thousands of dollars had been spent. Three credit cards were stolen and used to make several purchases in Chesapeake and Newport News.

Hotel robbery

On Jan. 17 about 11:25 p.m. the clerk of a hotel in the 700 block of Woodlake Dr. was returning to the office after delivering linens and was approached by two people who said they wanted a room. Once inside, one of the two people displayed a handgun and demanded money. The robbers then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Description: The first robber was described as a black man, between 20 to 26 years old, 6 feet tall, wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket. The second robber was described as a light-skinned black man, 20 to 26 years old, 6 feet tall and wearing a red, hooded jacket.

Assault

On Jan. 13 about 5:25 p.m., a woman with three young children approached another customer inside the Walmart in the 2400 block of Chesapeake Square Ring Road and assaulted her. The woman then fled in a blue Ford Explorer with Virginia license plates.

Description: The woman was described as being black, 25 to 35, 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 9, 210 to 250 pounds and she was wearing a gray coat and purple boots.

Theft from school

On Jan. 1 Indian River High School, in the 1900 block of Braves Trail, was broken into and several items taken.

Bank robbery

On Jan. 11 about 4:25 p.m., a man entered the Bank of Hampton Roads in the 100 block of Gainsborough Square and demanded money. He fled the scene in a green Chevy Blazer with New York tags.

Delando Smallwood, 32, of the 100 block of Greenfield Crescent in Suffolk is wanted on charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on Jan. 29 at 2 a.m. in the 4700 block of W. Military Highway. The victim and the shooter got into a verbal argument that turned physical. The victim was then shot. The shooter fled on foot. The victim has since been treated and released from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Smallwood is also known as "DJ Total Wreck" and he drives a van with that name written on it.

The Norfolk Fire Marshal’s office is asking for the public’s help to identify the man pictured in connection with an arson fire that occurred in the area of Cromwell Road and Tidewater Drive on Feb. 4 at about 2 a.m.

Convenience store burglary

On Dec. 29, two people burglarized the Cape View Food Mart, 1881 E. Ocean View Ave., by breaking out the front glass door. They took cigarettes and the cash register.

Suffolk

Credit card fraud

On Jan. 3, unlocked vehicles were reportedly broken into in the 2700 block of Godwin Blvd. and personal property, including credit cards were stolen. Several of the stolen credit cards were used for purchases totaling more than $3,500 that afternoon at Walmart, Belk, Advance Auto Parts and Walgreens in Franklin. Police believe the case is connected to a similar incident on Jan. 3 at a Virginia Beach Walmart.

Description: Police are asking for help to identify the two men seen on surveillance cameras using the stolen cards. One is described as a light-skinned black man with a full beard. He was wearing khaki pants, a striped shirt, tan jacket and a snow hat with ear flaps. The second was a dark-skinned black man, wearing light-colored pants, a dark jacket with a light-colored hood and a dark-colored stocking cap.

Larcenies

Since November several elementary schools and private day care facilities have reported burglaries during the day from unoccupied classrooms and offices. The thieves have been providing false information to gain access, often requesting tours. Once inside, the thieves have taken unattended personal property, such as purses, credit cards and cash.

Description: One of the thieves is described as being a black woman, with a dark complexion, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds and between the ages of 40 and 50 years old. The second person is described as being a black woman, with a medium complexion, 5 feet 3, 170 pounds and between 25 to 35 years old. She may also have a piercing on the right side of her nose. The women may be using an older model, light blue Oldsmobile or Buick, with damage to the front passenger side door and fender. The vehicle may also have missing hubcaps.

Burglary

On Feb. 5 about 4 a.m., a burglary alarm sounded at Lynnhaven Elementary School in the 200 block of Dillon Drive. School security saw three people on camera in the school, but couldn’t find anyone during a search of the building. Officers found broken glass in the office door, but no other damage. Several laptops were taken from a portable classroom.

Description: One person was described as a white male, wearing a black-colored jacket, dark jeans and a bandana covering the lower portion of his face. The second was described as a white male, with blond hair and wearing green cargo pants and a brown leather jacket. The third was also described as a white male, with a skinny build, wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Bank robberies

On Feb. 7 about 2 p.m., police were called to the Wells Fargo Bank in the 600 block of Independence Blvd. for a report of a robbery. The man handed the teller a note and demanded money. The teller complied and the robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. About 90 minutes later a second bank robbery was reported, this time at the BB&T Bank in the 6000 block of Indian River Road. The robber handed the teller a note and demanded money. He fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

On Jan. 30 about 12:15 p.m. a man entered the Wells Fargo in the 2600 block of Virginia Beach Blvd., handed the teller a note and demanded money. The teller complied and the man fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction.

Robbery, abduction

Hampton police are asking for the public’s help to find the person they believe responsible for three separate incidents that occurred in the Northampton section of the city. The first incident occurred Feb. 8 at 11:25 p.m. when a 21-year-old man in the 200 block of Marcella Road was forced at gunpoint into his car and told to drive to the Wells Fargo in the 2000 block of Coliseum Drive to get money from the ATM. When the victim couldn't retrieve any money, he was ordered back to where he was abducted and robbed of his cellphone, credit card and car keys. On Feb. 9 about 5:25 a.m. a 51-year-old woman from Philadelphia was in the 5100 block of Goldsboro Drive when she was approached by a man with a firearm and he demanded that she get into her vehicle, but as she climbed in, she began honking her horn and then kicked the robber. He fled on foot, heading south toward West Mercury Boulevard. About an hour later, a 17-year-old was inside the Hardee’s in the 900 block of Big Bethel Road when he was approached by the robber. He displayed his firearm and demanded money. The robber took the victim’s wallet and fled on foot.

Grand larceny

Between Dec. 23 and 26, a white H-Haul utility trailer filed with 20 SanAir blowers and a SanAir Ozone machine was stolen from the SanAir company in the 11000 block of Rock Landing Drive in Newport News. The 19-foot, 2002 Haulmark Industries utility trailer had Virginia tags of 189259TL. The stolen equipment and trailer was estimated to be worth more than $20,000.

Shoplifting

On Jan. 14 about 8:30 p.m., a man entered the Virginia ABC store in the 200 block of Village Ave. in York County and then left a short time later without making a purchase. He was later seen on camera concealing a bottle of gin and then leaving without paying for it.

Description: The man was described as being white, between the ages of 50 and 55 years old, wearing blue jeans, a denim jacket and glasses.

Motorcycle stolen

Sometime on Feb. 3 between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., a motorcycle was stolen from where it was parked in front of an apartment in the 200 block of Little Bay Ave., according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. The motorcycle was a 2009 Suzuki DRZ400SM Super Moto. It looks like a dirt bike with street tires. It was white and had Washington state tags.

Counterfeit money

On Dec. 13 shortly before 8 p.m., a woman tried to use eight counterfeit $20 bills to put that dollar amount on a credit card at a 7-Eleven in the 400 block of Bypass Road in Williamsburg. The woman was denied the transaction because the bills were recognized as fakes. After being confronted by the clerk, the woman exited the store and left the bills on the counter.

Assault, shooting

On Jan. 12 about 5:45 p.m. a 64-year-old Newport News man was riding a bicycle between Wickham and Orcutt avenues on 17th street when a group of four or five males between the ages of 17 and 18 years old stopped him and demanded money. When he said he didn’t have any, they beat him and took his bike. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening. A few minutes later, a 21-year-old Newport News man walking near 18th Street and Wickham Avenue was approached by a group of four or five people. He turned and walked toward Orcutt Avenue, but heard someone approach from behind. The person coming up from behind had a gun in his hand. The victim was shot in the arm. He was taken to a hospital for injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Description: In the first incident, the assailants were only described as wearing all-dark clothing. One had braided hair. In the second incident, the shooter was described as being a light-skinned male with a slight mustache and braids in his hair.

Burglary

On Jan. 26 at 3 a.m., St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in the first block of Mercury Blvd. in Hampton was burglarized. It is unknown how the thieves entered and then fled the church, but once inside they took cash and electronic devices.

Description: The two thieves are each described as being white males, in their late teens or early 20s, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 11, with think builds. One had brown hair, a goatee and was wearing blue jeans, black sneakers, a brown-and-maroon plaid, thermal jacket, black T-shirt, black gloves and sunglasses. The second one was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt, with a white T-shirt underneath, blue jeans with white on the pockets, a black baseball cap with white writing on it and black tennis shoes.

Robbery

On Jan. 23 about 7:50 p.m., two men entered the Sentry Mart in the 700 block of J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News. One man produced a handgun, forced a customer to lie on the floor and demanded the clerk empty the register. After taking the cash, the two robbers fled. About an hour later a man cashed lottery tickets that were stolen at the Sentry Mart. He left the Hampton Mini Mart driving a dark-colored vehicle.

Description: The first robber was described as a black man, 20 to 23 years old, with a medium build, wearing a black jacket, dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, dark shoes and a blue or green scarf over his face. He held a large-framed black handgun. The second robber was described as a black man, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, wearing a black hooded zip-up jacket, blue jeans, white shoes and blue medical gloves. The man who cashed in the stolen lottery tickets in Hampton is pictured at the far right.

On Jan. 23 about 8:15 p.m., two men entered the Hardee’s restaurant in the 200 block of S. Mallory St. in Hampton, displayed handguns and demanded money. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the business on foot. They were last seen running toward Downes Street.

Description: The first robber was described as a black man, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8, 150 to 165 pounds, wearing a blue winter jacket with a hood, blue jeans, black shoes, black gloves and a scarf covering his face. The second robber was described as a black man, 6 feet to 6 feet 2, with a slim build, wearing a blue puffy knee-length coat, black gloves and a black mask.

Stolen camper

Sometime between Dec. 29 and Jan. 1, a 2011 32-foot, white Keystone Bullet camper was stolen. The camper trailer was on site number 1 at the Fair Oaks Campground in the 900 block of Lightfoot Road in York County.

Property damage

On Jan. 1 about 8:45 p.m., the Craft Bearing & Company building in the 5000 block of Chestunut Ave. in Newport News was vandalized with graffiti. Surveillance video shows several people on the property. One person produces a hammer and tries to break a window when he is alerted to the video camera.

Description: All of the individuals captured on video surveillance appear to be white males between the ages of 15 and 21.

Robbery

On Jan. 14 shortly before 4:30 p.m., a man and a woman entered the Subway restaurant in the 700 block of J. Clyde Morris Blvd. While the woman stood near the door as a lookout, the man pulled a black handgun from his waist band and demanded money from the register. The same restaurant was robbed on Jan. 4, but it is unknown if the two robberies are related.

Home invasion robbery

On Jan. 17 about 7:15 p.m., a man and a woman were in their Newport News home when they heard a knock at the door. The man didn’t see anything through the window, so he opened the door and was met by a man who pointed a gun at his head and forced him back inside the home. The robber demanded money, which was given to him. During the robbery, the woman tried to call 911, but the robber took the phone from her and demanded the keys to her vehicle. When police responded, they found her vehicle running, but still in the driveway. The phone was in some shrubs nearby. Police believe the couple was targeted because they are elderly.

Description: The robber was described as a white man, 20 to 25 years old, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and he was wearing a gray, hooded jacket, with a blue scarf over his lower face and long blue shorts. He was carrying a dark-colored handgun.

Two people tried to use a counterfeit $20 bill to purchase alcohol from the ABC store on Merrimac Trail in York County. When the clerk told them it was a fake bill, the two people left the store.

Assault

On Jan. 14 about 3 a.m., a woman was assaulted by a man in the parking lot for the Pines of York apartments in the 100 block of Willowood Drive, York County. She told police that after getting out of her car, the man came up behind her and said he wanted to talk to her. When she kept walking, he grabbed her by the arm and tried to stop her. She began screaming and kicking and he fell to the ground. She was able to make it safely to her apartment to call 911. She had minor red scratch marks on her arm from when he grabbed her.

Description: The man was described as being black, 35 to 40 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 2, with a medium build and a mustache. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie, with the hood pulled up on his head. Three other men were with the man, but they never approached the woman or said anything.

Sexual assaults

Newport News police are investigating four related cases of sexual assaults in the Southeast community that occurred between June 19 and Nov. 22, 2011. In each case the female victims between the ages of 16 and 23 said they were walking alone when they were approached by a man who forced them to an unlit area. Then he inappropriately touched them and told them his intention to rape them. The man always changes his mind and allows the victims to leave. Here is a list of the reported incidents: June 19 at 1:25 a.m. in the 900 block of 22nd St; July 24 at 5 a.m. in the 2900 block of Orcutt Ave.; Aug. 19 at 1:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of Orcutt Ave.; and Nov. 22 at 6:45 a.m. in the 2900 block of Madison Ave.

Description: He is described as being black, in his 20s to 40s, 5 feet 2 to 5 feet 7, with a stocky build and medium complexion. He was wearing dark clothing and carrying a handgun.

Robbery

On Jan. 13 a 35-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in the 800 block of J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News by four men. The victim's car and personal items were taken. Within 40 minutes of the robbery, the four men tried to use the victim's credit card to make a purchase at a Walmart in Hampton

Theft

On Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. a man was seen stealing from the Rite Aid in the 5500 block of U.S. 17 in York County. He was seen running out of the store carrying two 19-inch LCD HD TVs and Christmas lights. He was running east on Dare Road toward Picadilly Loop.

Daniel Raymond Pendergast, 19, of the 600 block of Creasy Ave. in Newport News is wanted on charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony in connection with a robbery that occurred on Jan. 21 about 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Harpersville Road. A 22-year-old man told police he was driving on Jefferson Avenue when another car passed him, abruptly pulled in front of him and stopped. The victim bumped the rear of the car that stopped suddenly. Two men got out of the front car, pulled the driver from his vehicle and robbed him of his wallet. Travis Lee Morgan, 19, of Smithfield has already been arrested and charged after turning himself into authorities.

David Alfonzo Marrow, 23, of the 500 block of Adams Drive in Newport News is wanted on three outstanding warrants for weapon offenses and a probation violation involving the possession of marijuana. He faces additional charges in connection with an incident that occurred on Jan. 31.

Sean Green, 27, of the 500 block of Brightwood Ave. in Hampton is wanted on charges of robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, burglary with the intent to commit robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is described as being 6 feet 1 and 160 pounds.

Brad Parker, 24, of Newport News is wanted on charges of maiming, use of a firearm, shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred Jan. 9 in the 200 block of Kathann Drive in Hampton. Police said the victim was getting into his vehicle when he was shot in leg. The victim drove to the Newport News police headquarters and was then taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was treated and released.
