Norfolk, VA. - A hot new daily webcast called The Dot was launched today by HamptonRoads.tv. Written, edited and produced by 18-34 year olds for local 18 to 34 year olds, The Dot offers an engaging overview of news, entertainment and sports, Monday through Friday at noon.

Created for local high-speed Internet users, The Dot offers a quick 3 to 5 minute look at today's news, entertainment and sports stories, plus a preview of unique full-length video available at HamptonRoads.tv. The style is fast-paced and colorful to appeal to an Internet-savvy generation. With a variety of sources and stories, The Dot helps the viewer quickly and easily figure out what's happening in Hampton Roads.

Released at noon weekdays, The Dot appeals to the more than 538,000 Hampton Roads Internet users who are online between 11 am and 1 pm on a typical day. The show is available on-demand throughout the rest of the day so that viewers can watch it when they want.

"In developing The Dot, we listened to viewer feedback and considered the most-viewed stories on PilotOnline.com and most-discussed stories on HamptonRoads.com. This new webcast reflects the topics that are most interesting and most important to local viewers,"? said Chris Kouba, Director of Content and Strategic Development.

HamptonRoads.tv is linked with The Virginian-Pilot's other local websites, HamptonRoads.com and PilotOnline.com, and The Dot is featured on them daily as each new show is released.

The Pilot and its parent company, Landmark Communications, have a history of being early innovators for emerging media. Landmark launched The Weather Channel in cable's early days, for instance, and The Pilot was among the first to expand into radio and TV stations in its newspaper market. (Landmark operates TV stations elsewhere but no longer operates radio or TV stations in Hampton Roads.) The Pilot was one of the first newspapers in the nation to launch an Internet site when it launched PilotOnline.com in 1993.
