Norfolk, VA. – A local daily webcast for Internet-video viewers is now available through Apple’s popular iTunes service, as Apple rolls out a device to display online videos on widescreen televisions.
The Dot webcast, a 3 to 5 minute look at today’s news, entertainment and sports stories, has been broadcast each weekday at noon since February on HamptonRoads.tv, a local Internet video service run by The Virginian-Pilot’s Interactive Media division. Written, edited and produced by 18-34 year olds for local 18 to 34 year olds, The Dot is fast-paced and colorful to appeal to an Internet-savvy generation.
Apple this week began shipping its AppleTV product, a home-networking device that lets music, photos and videos on a computer to be played easily on a widescreen TV. The Dot is available as a free video podcast through iTunes and can be played on a PC, video iPod or AppleTV device. The Dot can still be seen at any time on through the HamptonRoads.tv website. Viewers can search for The Dot through the iTunes software, or can subscribe to a video podcast RSS feed at the bottom of the HamptonRoads.tv home page, or by typing this URL directly: http://home.hamptonroads.com/rss/thedot4itunes.cfm
Released at noon weekdays, The Dot appeals to the more than 538,000 Hampton Roads Internet users who are online between 11 am and 1 pm on a typical day. The show is available on-demand throughout the rest of the day so that viewers can watch it when they want.
