HAMPTON
An 18-year-old has been charged with the Sept. 5 beating death of his 33-year-old uncle.
About 6 a.m. that day, police were called to the 4100 block of Victoria Boulevard, according to a police news release. When officers arrived, they found Kenneth J. Major Jr. with a laceration near his left eye. He had been beaten in the head and kicked.
Major told paramedics he didn't need any treatment, but called for help several hours later, according to police. He died in a hospital on Monday.
Steven D. Major, 18, of the same address, was charged Sept. 5 with maiming. On Tuesday, the charge was upgraded to murder, police wrote in the release. He is being held in jail.
