When the Christmas lights were shining outside the trailer, police say, it meant business as usual.
And State Police claim that business was prostitution.
Police arrested six people earlier this month and shut down what they described as a brothel at Providence Trailer Park, at 1100 S. Military Hwy. near the Virginia Beach city line.
Last week police seized closed-circuit video equipment, papers, notes, books, pictures, condoms and money from the trailer, according to a search warrant filed in Chesapeake Circuit Court.
The warrant claims police surveillance of the trailer revealed a “constant” flow of cars to the address, which sits on an unmarked road at the back of the park. Each male visitor stayed an average of 30 minutes, police said.
The brothel operated seven days a week, police said.
A source told police that customers paid $30 for 15 minutes with a female prostitute, police said. Police sent an informant wearing an electronic recording device into the trailer at least four times from August to November.
An attendant at the trailer solicited money for the women’s services, police said.
“Exterior Christmas decoration lights were on which is the indication that this location is open for business,” police said in a court affidavit.
No one was home at the trailer Thursday. Icicle lights, turned off, were wrapped around the front and side of the trailer.
David Howell, a resident of the park, said he initially thought the glowing lights he saw most nights outside the trailer were some kind of tribute to loved ones away at war.
“Some strange things go on over here,” Howell said. “I’m not surprised.”
Police arrested Francisca Arias-De Rey, 50, of the Bronx, N.Y.; Lucila Cazares-Gomez, 32, of Baltimore; and Margaret Townsen, 40, of Chesapeake on misdemeanor charges of prostitution.
State Police also arrested Herman Roberto Perez->Nolasco, 33, of the 1100 block of S. Military Hwy. in Chesapeake on a charge of solicitation of prostitution.
Efingel Landero-Javier, 22, of Chesapeake was charged with one misdemeanor count of aiding prostitution by transporting a person to a place for the purpose of prostitution and one felony count of pandering by receiving money from someone engaged in prostitution. Alexander Landero-Martinez, 21, of Chesapeake was charged with one felony count of pandering. Both men are residents of the trailer park.
The defendants are scheduled to stand trial in the next three months. Three of the six have been arraigned, said Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Parr. Because the cases are pending, Parr declined to comment further on details.
