Dial 'Yumm' for Girl Scout cookies

Posted to: Chesapeake Community News

CHESAPEAKE CLIPPER

Girl Scouts throughout Chesapeake (and much of Hampton Roads) spent last week gearing up for their annual cookie sales campaign. The annual treats went on sale over the weekend, and the young ladies will be taking orders for several weeks.

Troops held pep rallies, designed posters and created commercial jingles to prepare for their sales, said Marcy Germanotta, communications director for the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast in Chesapeake. The cookie program is designed not only as a fundraiser for the organization but to teach girls leadership, goal-setting, money management, marketing and communication skills.

Many troops participate in the Gift of Caring, which allows girls to ask customers to donate cookies to their favorite charity, Germanotta said. Girl Scouts also can choose to send care packages to military personnel serving overseas, she added.

The door-to-door Girl Scout sales effort began Saturday and will continue through mid-February. Booth sales at selected community locations will then be held until the end of March. Cookies cost $3.50 per box.

To order cookies, call 340-YUMM.
