Accidental fire in Hampton leaves family of 5 homeless

Posted to: Hampton News

HAMPTON

A morning house fire in the 400 block of Newport News Avenue has displaced a family of five.

Three children, ranging in age from 7 to 17, were home at the time of blaze, which began shortly before 9:30 a.m. But all escaped without injury, said Fire Marshal Anne-Marie Loughran.

Rebecca Flowers, the children’s mother, was at work at the time, she said.

The blaze began in a second-floor children's room, near a bed, and is considered accidental, Loughran said.

The fire was confined to that one room, but there was smoke and water damage throughout the home, including a collapsed ceiling, Loughran said.

The family has no renter’s insurance.

It's really inexpensive...

I've been an Agent for 9 years and I don't know why more families to not have renter's/tenant insurance. Even if your credit is not perfect, it should be from $8-30 monthly. Most of us waste more money than that a month eating out or with entertainment.
Protect your family. There are lots of local places to call for this. It just breaks my heart everytime I see a family have to start over. Maybe people out there just do not realize how inexpensive it is. But it is so check into it.
