Suffolk announces two new development deals

Posted to: News Suffolk

Mayor Linda Johnson announced two new development deals today in her “State of the City” address, including a commitment by Boeing to build a global experimentation center for testing warfighting concepts.

A second deal involves plans by ProLogis to develop 125 acres of industrial land at Northgate Commerce Park.

Johnson highlighted Suffolk’s growing technology sector in her speech, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. inside the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center.

In the Boeing deal, the company has leased 7,500 square feet of office space at the Bridgeway Technology Center III. The plans call for a multi-million dollar experimentation center that will support a research and development agreement with U.S. Joint Forces Command. It is scheduled to begin operations this fall.

The project, which will initially employ nine people, will have access to hundreds of labs worldwide, according to a statement released by the city.

“This facilitates getting the best capability to the warfighter, as rapidly as possible, for both the overseas role and that of defending the borders of our country and of our allies,” said Guy Higgins, vice president of Boeing Advanced Systems’ Analysis, Modeling, Simulation and Experimentation group
