Unit set for drill after integration of Raptor fighter

Posted to: Hampton Military

The Virginia Air National Guard is set to make history when one of its units takes to the skies this weekend.

Officials say the 192nd Fighter Wing will take off for the first time during a drill today since its integration with the 1st Fighter Wing and the F-22 Raptor at Langley Air Force Base.

The 192nd Fighter Wing is the first Air National Guard unit in the nation to convert to and fly the Raptor.

The jet is the newest fifth-generation fighter in the U.S. Air Force inventory.

The unit also will change command from Col. Jay Pearsall to Col. Mark McCauley.
