NORFOLK
A man was arrested late Saturday and charged in connection with the slaying earlier in the day of a 62-year-old man, said Officer Chris Amos, a police spokesman.
Police were sent to the 1500 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd. about 2:15 p.m. after numerous calls came into 911 dispatchers reporting that several gunshots had been heard in the area.
When officers arrived, Amos said they found a man dead in what neighbors described as a boarding house.
Late Saturday, Amos identified the victim as Dan A. Hubbard, a resident of the address where the shooting occurred.
Amos said that at about 11:15 p.m., police arrested William H. Smith, 37, in the 2400 block of Cary Ave., one of two residences listed as his address. He was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with murder and use of a gun in commission of a felony.
Amos did not offer any details about a possible motive for the slaying.
Smith was still being questioned late Saturday and no bond had been set for him.
