Police have charged a woman with felony child neglect after they said her 2-year-old was found wandering alone early this morning at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Harbor Lane.
Nicole Lynn Brewington, 21, of Harbor Lane was charged then released by a magistrate on a promise to appear in court, according to a police news release.
A resident in the area found the little girl wandering about 2:15 a.m. in the area near 17th Street and Jefferson Avenue and called 911, said Lou Thurston, police spokesman. The resident stayed with the child until officers arrived.
The girl was placed with child protective services employees while police searched for a parent who was located by 4:30 a.m., Thurston said. Authorities also took a 6-month-old away from Brewington, according to the release.
Police said they would not release statements made by Brewington because the case is under investigation.
