VIRGINIA BEACH

A 24-year-old man was convicted today of sexually assaulting a girl last year.

During a two-day trial, prosecutors said Richard Flowers sneaked into an apartment on Maxey Drive while the two 15-year-old babysitters were outside.

Flowers picked up the 6-year-old victim as she slept on the couch with her sister. He then carried the girl to a bedroom, where the sexual assault occurred, prosecutors said.

Flowers denied inappropriately touching the victim. He will be sentenced on Sept. 9.
