The Hampton Roads area is under a severe thunderstorm watch tonight.

Thunderstorms moving through Norfolk will likely stay overnight, bringing a 60 percent chance of scattered showers and up to a quarter-inch of precipitation. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect in Norfolk until 9 p.m., said Tony Siebers, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Wakefield, Va.

The thunderstorms are stretching from North Carolina all the way up through Maryland, Siebers said. The National Weather Service has received reports of hail in Fort Monroe, Suffolk, Gloucester and James City, and trees down in the Williamsburg area and York County.

Tomorrow’s forecast will likely look like today’s, Siebers said, with a high of 89 degrees and a 50 percent chance of heavy rain.

“We’ve been in this pattern where we seem like we haven’t gotten a break from the rain,” Siebers said.

Siebers needs to get

his facts together! We've had a dry spring, for the most part, and he acts like the recent rain is a lengthy trend. Get a grip!
