Annual dolphin count will include educational post in Virginia Beach

The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team is planning its annual dolphin count for this Saturday.

This year, the efforts will include an education post on the boardwalk at 15th Street near the fishing pier, according to a news release from the aquarium.

The coastal dolphin survey, in its 16th year, will happen from 8 a.m. to noon and will include 75 volunteers the release says.

About half of the volunteers will be posted at 16 points along the beaches of the lower Chesapeake Bay and southern Virginia coast, the release says. The rest will count dolphins from boats along the Eastern Shore.

The rain date is Sunday.
