CHESAPEAKE
Of all the people at Thursday's rally, Peter Stanton stood out the most. It wasn't just the absence of an Obama T-shirt or pin. It was his sign: "thepoliticalcesspool.com," promoting a conservative radio show of the same name.
Stanton, 36, of Norfolk supports a write-in candidacy for Ron Paul, the Texas congressman whose outsider bid for the Republican nomination failed.
People were friendly toward, if a bit wary of, the guy standing across the street wearing black Ray-Bans and a tie featuring the logo of the Rolling Stones. "Someone said, 'Look at that nut.' Someone else said, 'Put that sign away,' " he said. The Obama campaign people offered him water but also asked him to move away from the entrance.
He's not making a scene, Stanton said, just letting people know they have more than two options. "I'm not part of a bigger thing, not part of the Paul campaign. Just out here by myself."
