VIRGINIA BEACH
While Adam Boyd was working on his master's degree in business administration, he had a side business - making and selling phony identification cards.
On Tuesday, Boyd was ordered to serve 12 months in jail for manufacturing false ID cards that teens used to buy alcohol. The 28-year-old pleaded guilty in December to two counts of possession of a forgery device and one count of forgery of a public record, after reaching an agreement with prosecutors.
Boyd was arrested in April 2007 after high school students caught drinking in a park led police to him.
During the investigation, police searched Boyd's residence on Las Brisas Drive and a storage facility and found numerous fraudulent cards from various states, equipment and more than $6,900, according to court records.
