NORFOLK
The former owner of a Portsmouth medical equipment supply company was sentenced today to 13 months in federal prison after admitting that she defrauded Medicaid of more than $100,000 by filing 1,500 fraudulent billing claims with the government.
Sharon M. Honeycutt, 54, pleaded guilty in May to three charges involving health care fraud and making false statements on her records. U.S. District Judge Rebecca B. Smith today denied Honeycutt’s request for probation, citing her abuse of public trust and the loss to taxpayers.
Honeycutt operated Ace Homecare, a small company that supplied medical equipment such as catheters, adult diapers and gloves, to customers in their homes.
