Inmate dies after overdosing at Newport News prison farm, police say

An inmate who apparently overdosed Sunday morning at the Newport News City Prison Farm died Monday afternoon, police said.

Jessie R. Truslow Jr., 25, of Newport News was taken to a hospital in critical condition about 4 a.m., a Newport News police news release said. He died about 3:05 p.m. Monday.

Police are investigating the death as a drug overdose, the news release said.

The prison farm is a minimum-security prison that can house about 260 inmates who provide services to the city such as mowing.
