VIRGINIA BEACH

Virginia Beach police said Monday that they have identified the remains of a woman whose body was found last Tuesday.

The remains are those of Chantel G. Bryant, 35, of the 2900 block of Kimball Terrace in Norfolk, a Beach police statement said.

Bryant was reported missing in Norfolk on Feb. 2.

According to an incident report filed with Norfolk police, Bryant was last seen about 11 p.m. on Feb. 1. She was in an upstairs bedroom while an unidentified person, who later filed the report with police, was on the couch downstairs, where he fell asleep. He told police that he awoke about 3 a.m. when his 13-month-old baby cried. He went upstairs to check on the baby and noticed that Bryant wasn’t there.

He called her cell phone but got no answer. Later that morning, he went to the homes of her grandmother and two sisters, but none had seen her, the report said.

Her car and keys were still at the residence and there was no sign of a struggle or forced entry, the report said. Her cell phone was not at the scene.

Several people told police it was not in her nature to leave without telling someone, the report said.

Her cause of death has not yet been determined. The case is being investigated by Norfolk and Virginia Beach police.

A landscape worker found the remains in a wooded area near Independence Boulevard and Holland Road.
