VIRGINIA BEACH

Two people were arrested today on charges they broke into a home and tried to rob several people inside, an official said.

Patrick E. Carpenter, 23, of the 3900 block of Morning View Drive, and a 17-year-old Virginia Beach boy were arrested by officers responding to a 12:30 a.m. call reporting a home invasion, police spokeswoman Margie Long said.

Carpenter and the teenager are suspected of bursting into a home in the 600 block of Thomas Nelson Drive, Long said. One of the people in the home called police, and officers arrived while the robbery was in progress, Long said.

The teenager, who was trying to escape from the house, suffered a minor bite wound from a police K-9 dog, Long said. The teen was treated at the scene before being taken to juvenile detention, she said.

He and Carpenter are both charged with robbery, armed burglary, abduction, conspiracy and use of a firearm in a felony.

Carpenter was being held without bond at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
