VIRGINIA BEACH
Two people who are still living have been selected to join the Virginia Legends Walk, a monument near the Oceanfront that honors great Virginians.
Katie Couric, anchor of the CBS Evening News, and Tom Wolfe, author of “The Right Stuff" and “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test,” were joined by the late William Styron as 2008 inductees.
To be chosen, a person has to receive the vote of at least half the ballots, which are sent to university presidents, newspaper editors, history professors and librarians across Virginia.
Styron, who won the Pulitzer Prize for literature for his “The Confessions of Nat Turner” in 1968, got nearly 52 percent of the votes and Wolfe and Couric got 50 percent each.
A racehorse, Triple Crown winner Secretariat, and The Statler Brothers of Staunton narrowly missed being chosen.
Honorees for the Legends Walk include Arthur Ashe, Pearl Bailey, Patsy Cline, Douglas MacArthur, Edgar Allan Poe and eight U.S. presidents.

What are you kidding??
This lady can barely get a viewership. What has she done for Virginia Beach that is so wonderful?? If we need a TV celebtrity, which I think is ridiculous in its own right, then maybe we should pick one that has actually helped Virginia Beach - I can think of one that exposed written policies of our police chief that were contrary to federal immigration law that resulted in the deaths of two innocent teens. Now thatexposure really created change & maybe now some other parents will not have live with bad policies of what was otherwise unknown.
Why?
I can't imagine why anyone would want catie immortalized. She's a flash in the pan. Barf!
the today show
I really liked Couric on the Today Show and was sorry to see her leave, but understand the reasons why. I don't get to see her much on channel 3, I just don't wastch that channel.
I think Couric is a good choice and I think other comments are all politically motivated, which is a shame.
What a joke
Katie Couric???? The Statler Brothers have done more for this State, and for this country for that matter, than she has or will ever do. What a waste and a joke.
Couric...
You're kidding right? What a waste!
Couric?
Must we? She has sorta lost her appeal to at least half of the American people.
