A Hampton woman was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon in Southampton County, Virginia State Police said.
Iris Rivera, 49, was killed about 2:50 p.m. in a single-vehicle crash on eastbound U.S. 58 at Popes Station Road, west of Franklin, said Sgt. Michelle Cotten of Virginia State Police.
Rivera was a passenger in the front seat of a vehicle being driven by her daughter, Cotten said. The daughter lost control, hydroplaned, ran off the road and hit a tree, she said.
Rivera’s granddaughter, 7, was in the back seat. The daughter and granddaughter had minor injuries. They were both wearing seatbelts; Rivera was not, Cotten said.
No charges will be filed, she said.
