WINTERGREEN

The slopes are opening early at Wintergreen Resort.

The central Virginia skiing destination opened the slopes this weekend, two weeks ahead of schedule. Recent cold weather allowed the 11,000-acre resort to fire up its snow guns in full force last weekend, making way for the opening of the slopes.

Tourism officials are hoping that a strong ski season in Nelson County to keep the region's economy afloat in the nation's overall economic downturn.

The Virginia Tourism Corporation says visitors to the Charlottesville region spent about $790 million on meals, lodging, transportation, shopping and entertainment in 2007. That's a 5.5 percent increase over the previous year's total.

Here is the truth on how

Here is the truth on how global warming has affected nearby ski resorts. Wintergreen struggled to stay open the last two years. Last year Snowshoe never opened Lower Sheas Revenge due to the weather. The half pipe never opened either. Wintergreen will have an uphill climb in the future to maintain their snow base. This issue of warming is advancing rapidly. The good news is that Snowshoe currently has received 68.5" this fall and it is snowing now. Two years ago there was only 11" on the ground that was natural half way through January. Get out there and get some. By the way, Wintergreen is a private resort and all owners have a piece of the pie. You have to pass a gate to gain entry.

Is this news ?

I thought this was a newspaper, not a press release machine for resorts. Does Landmark own a part of Wintergreen ? Is any member of the Batten family on the Wintergreen Board of Directors ? Or the Nelson County Board of Supervisors ? It rained there all day yesterday , melting all that fake snow.

C'mon man !!!!

OH NO! What happened to

OH NO! What happened to our adult population of understanding fiscal matters. It doesn't take a genious to realize that "global warming" is a billion dollar a year industry and it only increases budgets to continue the charade. But go ahead continue buying shorts and flip flops, I'm going skiing early and going to help sea turtles that almost died in below average sea temperatures. Maybe for the second straight year in recorded history it will snow again in Baghdad, but who knows.

empirical evidence

There is plenty of evidence to support global climate change, as its been occuring for tens of millions of years. What's missing is the evidence to support that arrogant human beings can do anything to change or substantially influence a naturally occuring phenomenon. Still waiting for that evidence...

Oh no! What happened to our

Oh no! What happened to our adult populations understanding of science? If you need empirical evidence every year to support global warming your going to have a tough time explainiing anything in your world aside form gravity which you can demonstrate by jumping off of something. What a silly comment.

The Church of Global Warming

The Church of Global Warming has renamed itself the Church of Global Climate Change, thereby ensuring ensuring the continued guilt-mongering and goading of its membership. Thank goodness - we wouldn't want a simple thing like the truth to interfere.

oh no

What about all that global warming.....
