Tickets to watch the Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 20 will go on sale at 1 p.m. today, the Presidential Inaugural Committee announced this morning.

Selling for $25 each, the 5,000 tickets will allow access to bleachers along the 1.7 mile parade route.

They will be available for sale online at Ticketmaster.com or by phone at (202) 397-7328, (410) 547-7328 or (703) 573-7328. There’s a limit of four per order.

A ticket is not required to watch the parade but they guarantee a seat along the route. Standing room will be available along Pennsylvania Avenue on a first-come, first serve basis.

"We are very pleased to make these tickets available to the public as part of our commitment to holding the most open and accessible Inauguration in history," said Emmett Beliveau, the committee’s executive director.

The parade is expected to feature more than 90 music, cultural and community groups along with members of the Armed Forces.

Parade tickets are separate from tickets to the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden. Tickets to the swearing-in ceremony will be available to the public through congressional offices. No tickets have been distributed as yet for the ceremony.

Waste of money and energy in these times.

This thing has grown way past the ability of infrastructure to support it. It should have scaled back along time ago. Waste of money and energy in these times.

Save your money

My advice - don't buy a ticket. You will not be able to get into DC from Virginia on January 20. All Patomac River bridges from Northern Virginia into DC will be closed to automobile traffic. Taxis and buses only will be permitted. Pedestrian traffic only on Memorial Bridge. Northern Virginia public transportation, rail, bus and subway, are barely adequate even on a normal day. The Coast Guard will block all traffic on the Patomac and Anacostia Rivers. So don't consider taking your boat. If you do manage to get across the river, you will be subject to airport type check points in order to enter the 3 square mile security zone around the Mall, White House and Capitol. Stollers, back packs, large hand bags, picnic baskets, folding chairs, etc. will not be permitted in that area. So stay home and enjoy it on TV from the warmth of your living room where food, beverage and toilets will be within a few steps.
