Special to Your Corner

The Girls Night Out Club was started 11 years ago with the idea in mind to keep in touch with old friends from the good old days around the Churchland area.

We meet on the third Wednesday of each month visiting a different restaurant each time. We have to boast this time and let all know we found an extraordinary restaurant, the Montgomery Grill, in downtown Portsmouth on High Street.

We were so impressed with the quality of food, the outstanding service and cozy atmosphere we told Allan Fisher, the manager, "It's one of the greatest."

The history of the restaurant is a story in itself and very fascinating. Montgomery Grill is on land originally surveyed by Col. William Crawford in 1752. The restaurant takes its name from the survey grid on which it sits, called Montgomery Square.

The inside of the restaurant has maintained its authentic appeal by keeping the original tin ceilings.

The chefs use original recipes of regional comfort food from time-honored favorites that are filled with fresh cut ingredients, fresh spices and made fresh daily.

You must try this place - it's outstanding and the prices were very kind to our pocket books.

Not impressed

Went with a group of friends last Friday night. Service was horrible, drinks were expensive, food was below average. Won't be back. I don't understand the line waiting to get in when we left.

Montgomery Grill

You have to try their Crab Hats. Large blue jimmys annointed with oils and barely roasted over a slow methane flame.Still live and kicking they're placed on a bed of cat hair with a zest of fiber glass. Delicioso!!! Geez it seems like yesterday I was there enjoying a glass of Moulan De Jour Por Fecas. Get a grip people. Our society is dying and U pods are worried about getting a trendy meal.

Hot and LOUD

My husband and I looked forward to a nice evening meal at Montgomery Grill. We went there for tonight's dinner after a wonderful shopping experience at Bowman's Garden Center. Well, to our diappointment, the place was HOT, LOUD, and the food was LATE due to the convection oven breaking. My husband's baked chicken was raw, my trout was luke-warm and the best thing at our table was the corn bread and Shiraz. Our waitress was phenomenal and I felt badly for her as she kept apologizing. We won't be back. We would rather invest our time and money at Krush on Washington Street in Olde Towne.

Sorry, Montgomery Grill.

I ate there a few weeks ago

I ate there a few weeks ago and found the food to be very good, the decor was very cool and the staff was very attentive. A great place.
