PORTSMOUTH

A 28-year-old Western Branch High School teacher has been suspended after his arrest last week on charges that included driving under the influence and three counts of assault on a police officer.

Police stopped Lance Trevor Eley near his home, in the 4500 block of High St. W., about 5:15 a.m. May 23, according to Det. John Doyle, a police spokesman.

He was clocked on radar doing about 61 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to a probable cause summary in court records. Police stated that Eley kicked one of them, spit on another and grabbed a third officer’s arm and began to twist it, according to the summary.

Eley was also charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving, and refusal to take a breath or blood test.

He is out on $2,000 bond and is scheduled for a July 22 preliminary hearing.
