HAMPTON

An official says the Hampton Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is getting $1.5 million in federal stimulus money.

Director DeAnne Seekins says the money will replace fire alarms and nurse call systems.

Congressman Bobby Scott says Chesapeake-based Adira Construction has won the contract for the work. Scott says the hospital is also planning to spend approximately $6.2 million to upgrade its electrical system.

The things that are being

The things that are being fixed sound like routine safety issues. Why is it taking stimulus money to fix safety issues? If these things were a problem they should have been fixed straight away without having to wait for special funds. Is not the safety and well being of the patients and staff one of the most important things? Sounds like OSHA needs to inspect these hospitals all over the country, oh right the government inspecting the government, that won't work.

Expensive Electrical Work

$6+ million for electrical work? That's $30,000 per room!

V.A. Hospital Stimulus Money

They should spend some of that money to hire more Doctors that give a crap. I have been jerked around by that hospital and some of the doctors there. They act like they are doing you a favor and heaven forbid you need to see they doctor they assign to you before they want. The doctor I am seeing put me on a medicine that I told her doesn't work for me as I have had it in the past, but she didn't seem to listen or maybe didn't understand the English I was speaking. Then she says she will schedule me for May 5th for a follow-up. The meds she gave made my BP go up and also gives me diarrhea. Tried to make an appointment on the appointed day they allow you to call for an appointment and I was told that I can't unless the doctor approves it. WHAT A CROCK!!! After three days of being jerked around I was finally able to make an appointment but she won't see me until March 22nd. Maybe I will drop dead and then they can clear the calendar for someone else to harass. The V.A. sucks and they seem to get a perverse thrill out of jerking around the disabled.

and this is one of the models for universal health care

you have been warned. We will all be under this shortly if there are no protections put into place on this health care debate. no one will accept this happens in a government run health care system.
