these so-called "educators" did the children as well as the school system irreparable harm in the long run. terminate all teachers, principals and administrators connected to this shameful disgrace. let them "teach" in the systems in detroit, chicago and nyc. also, speed up the departure of the school supt. and get someone in there who is capable and competent to do the job based on objective criteria and not screw up the system in the name of diversity.
the taxpayers of norfolk deserve to get their monsy's worth.
Testing in Norfolk
I voted no. Working in the school system I can see why the teachers would do this. What I don't understand is why they spend this money when education is under fire. What do you think the cuts will do to the education of the children. What happened to being able to be creative. Most of the students now learn from hands on interaction. There is no time for this. Not everyone, especially with the No Child Left behind, can learn at the same level. Get real people, maybe your child excels in everything and has no problem but unfortunately many do not. This test causes much stress both for the teachers and the students. I did not have all these tests and consider myself very well educated and able to function in society. If they want to spend the money spend it in technical schools so every child will have a trade when they leave. Many will not continue there education but would surely be able to live a somewhat productive life if they had some kind of trade. It works in Europe. Most ot the Tech centers are designed for college bound students with Algebra and Chemistry. What little they use from these courses could surely be taught in the classroom. We are so behind other countries, mak
Hmmmm......
Obviously you weren't an English major in college. It's "their" not "there" education.
student testing
All students should be required to take assessment tests, however, tests taken by special ed students would be assessed separately and not included in the tallies of the academic standards for the school. By taking the test, special ed scores can be assessed by learning disability groups etc., and better planning for teaching these students could be evaluated. Even the high functioning special ed students would fall into this category until their academic achievements are assessed and a group policy established. Being High functioning students doesn't account for any baggage that might preclude them from taking an assessment in the same environment as the standard student population. It's not that hard - just do it and all the shadowy testing issues will go away. FrankR27401, MA (gifted/special education)
You are free to vote any way you wish, but ...
I'd be curious to know your rationale for voting "NO" if you wouldn't mind sharing.

Why do they sometimes ask such foolish no-brainer questions?
The names of
students can be redacted. The teacher names should remain.
