We're in a recession?????
Americans spent over $700 million to see a SINGLE MOVIE.
And we gripe at the education budget cuts?
WAH! WAH! WAH!
How soon?
How soon will they be out on DVD?
I'll elaborate
Ever since "Goodfellas" lost to "Dances with Wolves" as Best Picture of 1990, I have had no respect for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and their decisions as to whom they award their little statues.
This year they nominated "Inglorious Basterds", which is a violent hateful film. A couple of years ago they nominated that "Borat" movie which was a filthy vile creation. Last year there was an Italian movie named "Gomorrah", which was a realistic portrayal of the crime syndicate in Naples, Italy. It won awards at Cannes and many other film festivals. It won 5 prizes at the European Film Awards including Best European Film.
All these accolades and it failed to be nominated for 2008 Best Foreign Language Film. The film "Gomorrah" is available at all video rental places--I highly recommend you view this film and then be the judge as to whether or not it should have been nominated last year for Best Foreign Language Film. There's no wonder they call the American film industry "Hollyweird", because weird is what it is.
Borat was
nominated for Best adapted screenplay, not Best Picture. And to criticize the Academy for choosing Dancing with Wolves over the hateful and violent Goodfellas and then blast them for Inglorious Basterds is just wrong.
They usually get it wrong
Why is there not a "I don't care about the Oscars" option?
Ditto
I said the same thing but my post are still being blocked by the feel good board police.
You forgot to add
Who cares.
If you don't care, why do you waste your time?
Do you think you will win over some people who do care? As if, suddenly, someone will read you're "don't care" comment and think "Why, my goodness! He's right no one should care about Oscars. I'll never read another Academy Awards-related story again."
Do you think you will somehow invoke into action everyone else who doesn't care and form some sort of online protest that ends with PilotOnline/HamptonRoads.com never posting another story or poll about the show ever again?
Gosh, if you really don't care, don't click the link. It's the No. 1 form of protest on the Internet. The fewer page views a story or poll or anything gets here, the less likely you are to see it.
