Police are warning residents about fraudulent calls being made that indicate ATM cards have been compromised.
Several people have reported that the recorded messages say the call is from one of several local banks and that the person should press a given number for assistance in rectifying the problem, a news release from Newport News police said. The calls seem to be targeting older residents.
Anyone who has received this type of call and responded to the instructions should contact their bank, the news release said.
Anyone who receives such a call should hang up and also notify their bank.
Most banks offer fraud reporting through their Web sites.
