Only if everyones salary is cut

Why should the Legislatures salary be cut and not mine? Just about everyone has some blame for the economic problems we are having. I am sure most people voted 'yes' out of anger and frustration not logic.

Legislators salaries

Cutting legislators salaries would be little more than a symbolic move, though a good one. At least it would show the people that they are aware of the difficulties we are all facing. They dont really make that much money for their service though. Reality is that spending needs to be cut in dramatic ways to get the budget and economic situation back on track. Thats why McDonnell proposed the dramatic and controversial cuts he did. Part of which were to education. School breakfast to kids who already get food stamps to pay for their breakfast at home, pre-K funding which didnt even exist 20 years ago and should be taught at home, and AP class funding which didnt exist 20 years ago because the government should provide education K-12 at 100%, not Pre-K through College. Why should high school students get a free college education in high school completely on the tax payers dime? Let them go to college in college where its subsidized, but not totally free. Their tuition money for those classes would help our state schools budgets too. All are great programs and wonderful luxuries if you can afford them. Sadly, we can't afford them, and never could. Thats partly why we're in this mess.

Yes is Less

Saying Yes will really make them work much harder for us. NOT! If a person is not performing, they should be let go. If they are performing their job, no pay cuts. No one who is doing their job should have to endure a pay cut; makes no sense.

I respectfully beg your pardon. I am a repub. and I voted yes. My husband has had to start taking a day without pay a month. Also, quite a lot of his usual overtime was cut back as well. The lost pay was substantial, but necessary. That is painful, but, it is better than being laid off. Everyone has to do their share during these times. I'm afraid you lose the bet. Blanket statements are usually very unfair and, most often untrue.

If you read my comments, I said probably few. Some. And again, as I said, how many are would agree to cut their pay? Obviously, what you are going through you do not agree with.
So, why cut anyone's pay unless it is absolutely necessary. Do not cut anyone's pay just because others are having to, or just to "get even".

aw no I didn't

No I had not read your comment. If you look closely you will see that my commnet was posted before your was.

You said: "Obviously, what you are going through you do not agree with."

Sorry I have no idea what you are trying to say.

How many?

How many of you that voted "yes" and are commenting here are taking a pay cut? Or better yet, would even agree to having your pay cut to help? Probably few. I wouldn't. So why should they?

the 9% that voted no

The 9% that voted no, must be Republicans

Typical

Typical Democrat response!

I am republican, and I have taken a 45% pay cut. I am glad to have a job. Now if ALL our elected officials (both parties) would do what is right for our country instead of doing what suits them; we would be out of this economic mess.

The Dems think it is time to spend our way out. History has proven that to be wrong. I don't have the answers, but neither do ANY of our elected officials.

Really...

Spoken like a true finger-pointing, blame the other guy Democrat.
