VIRGINIA BEACH

At least one burglar with expensive taste and an eye for fashion has been targeting homes in and around The Lakes area of the city, hitting at least nine homes in January and February, police said Tuesday.

A total of $17,245 in property has gone missing, including cash, electronics, video games, jewelry and clothing, according to police reports filed online. At one home, two pairs of skinny jeans worth $120 were taken along with a $1,000 white gold necklace. At another, someone stole two shotguns, a rifle, a pistol and ammunition. And a safe with $90 inside was taken from the Plaza Little League, according to police reports.

The burglaries occurred between Jan. 2 and Feb. 25 in a section of the city bordered by Lynnhaven Parkway, South Lynnhaven Road, Bow Creek Boulevard, and South Rosemont and Holland roads.

Police have notified residents and are looking for information. In several of the cases, doors and windows were left unlocked, police said.
