What kind of dumb poll is
What kind of dumb poll is this?
"Wright" choice made.
I don't think Randy Wright made decisions based on what was right for the city or Oceanview. He may have started off being the best choice at one time but has not been for a few years. The last election he came close to being replaced and said he'd do better but didn't change a thing so he got what was coming.
Offensive
It was a decision the voters in Ward 5 had the unquestionable right to decide. Where's the poll on whether the voters in Norfolk made the wrong decision to keep the incumbents in the other Wards? How unprofessional and totally biased.

The Light Rail train wreck continues . . .
I hope the City Council members in Virginia Beach (and all other BOS/CC members across Tidewater) are paying close attention to what happened to Mr. Wright - if they do they will understand that it isn't going to be just the taxpayers that pay dearly for the foolishness of light rail - it will be politicians that fail to listen to the will of the people when we tell them "No!" to their misguided TOD/light rail developer boondoggle "investment" projects. At least the voters did the "Wright Thing" - they F-I-R-E-D Mr. Wright for his failure to keep track of HRT and light rail. Perhaps if TDCHR Vice Chairman Randy Wright had done the right thing and F-I-R-E-D Mr. Townes he might still be a City Council representative? Stay tuned folks ... there are more elections to follow . . . I'm sure that ex-HRT President Michael Townes is enjoying a good laugh today - he gets to sit at home and collect 2 years of full pay and benefits for making allowing the train wreck to happen. Ex-City Councilman Randy Wright simply gets shown the door.
the wright seat
If, what the citizens of Norfolk want is a yes person who can't think outside the box, then of course, Randy Wright needed to be ousted. Norfolk just lost a good and honorable representative, a very rare asset.
I guess time will tell
I think Randy has done a very good job representing not only Ward 5, but the entire city of Norfolk. Light Rail is an essential part of our future and kudos to Randy for all his work on that. Could he have handled things differently with HRT? Maybe...but remember, he is ONLY one of 17 HRT Board members. As he told us at our civic league meeting a few months ago, he did not want Townes to stay, but he was in the minority. Also, where is the outcry with Mr. Riddick, who said he thought Townes was doing an exceptional job? Shucet is now in the drivers seat at HRT, thank goodness! Lesson learned is that Board members NEED TO FOLLOW THE MONEY. The good news is that Norfolk's portion of it has NOT gone overbudget. I do hope that Mr. Smigiel is a guick learn, and that he is able to grasp big picture, into the future ideas. I also have no beef with working on Wards Corner, because what's good for one part of town is good for us all. We are uniquely Norfolk, and I hope and pray our Council members act as a team to work for whats good for all!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wright Rail . . .
Light Rail is just one of many things Mr. Wright accomplished that needed doing. I hope Mr. Newby does as well.
Tax base isn't everything
"Tax Base" isn't everything. Open space makes the remaining land worth more, it looks beautiful, and it keeps housing and businesses near the open space healthier places to live and work.
