Colonial Williamsburg hosts naturalization of 100 for Flag Day

Posted to: News Williamsburg - James City

Today is Flag Day.

On May 30, 1916, then-President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation calling for a nationwide observance of Flag Day, according to The National Flag Day Foundation’s website.

In 1949, President Harry Truman signed an act designating June 14 as the national day to honor the American Flag, the site says.

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation will host a naturalization ceremony at 4 p.m. today for 100 people becoming American citizens. The U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services is co-hosting the ceremony at the South Gate of the Capitol Building in Colonial Williamsburg’s historic area.

Code Pink

Hopefully Code Pink won't feel the need to disgrace the naturalization ceremony this year as they did a few years ago. Congrats to our new citizens! May you lead prosperous and productive lives in our country!

army birthday

I'd also like to point out that it's the US Army's 235th birthday. Another reason to fly the flag.

RED

I have that Red Skelton rendering of the Pledge, quite excellent it is. My flag flies high every day!!! God Bless America!!!

Key word

words have meaning and history

My father shared with me a recording of Red Skelton explaining how the entertainer was taught the Pledge of Allegiance.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

May we always remember the dream of hope and desire of freedom for all, and the sacrifices made to ensure that the next generation will have those freedom.
Thank someone today and every day after for the republic for which the flag stands.

Ditto~

Well said.........

Amen!
