Poll Question

Posted to: News Portsmouth

This doesnt necessarily mean

This doesnt necessarily mean the end of cards flying in VA. HOME games (yes played for real $$$) are LEGAL in the state of VA provided there is NO RAKE FROM THE HOUSE. The way these establishments are 'getting away' with collecting a rake is by 'donating to charity'. If bingo is sanctioned (see: the state has their fingers in it) then I believe poker should fall under the same guidelines. If these officers are providing a service on their OFF TIME (not on the taxpayers $$$) I have no problem with them spending their off time to help provide for their families and keeping these places safer.

52 pick up

GOt the cards, breaking the law!

Priorities

Had an X sister in law that turned out to be a bigamist (7 times and counting...), but only learned about that after she scammed my younger brother into marrying her, adopting her two kids, then walked and wanted child support. Entire marriage built on fraud. Think Portsmouth would prosecute? Think Posrsmouth would do ANYTHING about it? Oh no, the judge sanctioned the child support and no one in Portsmouth will step up and do anything. Guess it's fine ladies to do whatever you want. Watch out male poker players... But hey, makes sense to me!

Its the "Blue Laws" ,long since discounted, at work

The ban on gambling, and the state control of liquor stores are a continuation of the religious "Blue Laws." Get the churches to back off and the laws might be changed.

OH MY GOSH!!!

Someone's playing cards! PUT THEM IN JAIL!

Gambling

There goes gin rummy!
Isn't playing any card game in a public building for money, gambling? Why are some allowed, and others are not? What about Bingo? Why are there no casinos in Virginia? I know there are several states with casinos owned by native Americans. There are native Americans in Virginia, right??

smart move?

This is crazy. Mr. Mobley is making himself appear wishy-washy and uncertain. His previous statement in support was completely logical, and this backtracking makes no sense. If poker is so bad, please close down the bingo halls, too.

fine them

Gotta pay for the recall election somehow.

God forbid

anyone have fun and the gov't can't get a piece of the action. Besides, if people "gamble" outside the state-run lottery the world might come to an end.

$$$

It's not about the crime...it's the tax. waste of taxers money. Big crime stoppers they are.
