regular eye exams are important

I will be happy to add this to Medicaid when folks needing the exam turn in their cell phone.

Regular eye exams can help

Regular eye exams can help prevent blindness. Often diseases are detected in the early stages during a routine eye exam.

Fixed Income

For people on a fixed income, the added expense of an eye exam can be over-whelming. What happens? No eye exam and Grandpa gets behind the wheel...............

I lived in Florida back in the late 70's / early 80's. There was a retiree from Ohio that, upon FAILING Fla's eye exam, went BACK to Ohio and re-newed his license (no eye exam required @ THAT TIME in Ohio).

He came BACK to Florida and was on his way to a hot-dog stand and ran over 3 children playing in their driveway. Once Police tracked him down he said " I thought I hit some trash-cans."

So NO, I DONT think this is a Good Idea !

PS : Florida RAISED SO MUCH HELL that Ohio instituted mandatory eye exams on license re-newals.

Not really

Eye exams run around $50, so we're not exactly talking about an overwhelming expense. That's not really related to the vision test required to get your driver's license.

Eye Exams

For people on Medicaid, $50 is a tremendous expense. If they could afford it, they probably wouldn't be on Medicaid to begin with. And eye exams can be a bit more than $50.

Let's see...

Do they have a cellphone, big screen TV, play the lottery every week, drive a nice shiny SUV?

Sounds like they can afford the $50 to me.

You hit the nail right on the head...

I am sick and tired of the hand outs! Pay your own way period.

What is happening to country makes we want to puke.

It just isn't

It's just not a lot of money no matter how you look at it. The exams do not cost much and you only need them every few years. It's maybe $2/month.

Eye Exams

I have to disagree. $50 is still a big amount to some people. I personally know of two people who simply cannot afford an eye exam right now. The economy has taken a lot away from them. They are working two jobs trying to make ends meet. $50 for each of them would be $100...assuming the exam was $50. They just don't have the money.

Ever few years

That cost is every few years. If that was a monthly cost then it would be significant. It sounds like what people want is a forced savings account.
