OCRACOKE

The Coast Guard reported no serious injuries in a collision between a ferry and a 35-foot motor yacht in the island’s ferry channel Saturday night.

A crew member aboard the ferry Carteret, which crosses between Cedar Island and Ocracoke, radioed the Coast Guard at 8:30 p.m. about the crash. Guard crews took ashore two crew members and two dogs on board the yacht, the Tony C, and towed the damaged vessel to shallow water.

The ferry, which wasn’t seriously damaged, carried eight passengers and one car in addition to its crew.

The Coast Guard is still investigating the cause.
